The Accused W/ special Guests

The Accused

(May 2023) In 2023, veteran Pacific NW punk / metal band, The Accüsed are celebrating the 40th Anniversary of their 1st vinyl release, ‘Please Pardon Our Noise, It Is A Sound of Freedom’ (‘Split 12” LP w Rejectors; 1983, Fatal Erection / Fu-Fu Records) The Accused just confirmed they will be playing two very special local area LIVE Shows next month; one for Seattle at BELLTOWN YACHT CLUB June 30th and the following night, Saturday, July 1st up in Everett at Tony V’s Garage. After the two went separate ways 40 years ago, The Accused’s original lead vocalist John Dahlin is back on the mic as lead vocalist, joining founding member and guitarist Tommy Niemeyer, along with bandmates Andy Caro - bass (March of Crimes, Supercult); Brian Fritts - guitar (13 Scars, The Black Nasty, Big Top, et. al) and Mickey Widmer - drums (Poison Idea, Toe Tag, The Accused A.D.) collectively becoming a veritable punk rock all-star band. “This is a very exciting time for the band…” said Niemeyer, “...and with us it’s only gotten better and better in this last shitty couple of years; so we are more than ready to rip people’s faces off with this music right about now,” he concluded, smiling. “It’s time.” So, this Summer 2023, when The Accused begin the next phase of their four-decades-and-counting journey, it will no doubt re-establish these punk / metal pioneers as being worthy of ‘Local Legend’ status, as well as underscore their deep influence on multiple generations of bands that have sprung up in the ‘heavy music’ scenes across the Earth over the past several decades. —---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Accused are back yet AGAIN..! This time kicking things off at home and announcing two very special Summer 2023 Gigs: Friday, June 30, at BELLTOWN YACHT CLUB, Seattle; and Saturday July 1, in Everett, WA at Tony V’s Garage; —--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A BRIEF HISTORY OF The ACCUSED The ACCUSED formed in 1981 when three punk rock teenagers from Whidbey Island, Washington decided life was just a bit too dull out there, and there weren’t too many great places to ride their skateboards on a big rock in the middle of Puget Sound. The only thing to keep them somewhat out-of-trouble would be playing loud music. So they did. All day, every day. The original line-up in 1981 for The Accüsed consisted of Chibon ‘Chewy’ Batterman; Dana Collins and Tommy Niemeyer. Chewy’s initial assignment was screaming into the microphone as lead vocalist, but after 6 months or so, the band felt they were lacking a low end sound, so Chewy switched over to bass guitar with Dana And Tommy staying on as drummer and guitarist respectively. In 1982, drummer Dana met vocalist John Dahlin when Dana’s family took a vacation in Hawaii; John was fronting a punk band there, and Dana saw how John could be great for his band. Back on Whidbey, Dana played Chewy and Tommy a cassette tape of John’s vocal abilities and the band immediately asked John to become lead vocalist for The Accused. 1983 was the year The Accused saw their first vinyl recording get released; a split 12 inch LP Record, with Seattle’s REJECTORS representing one side and The ACCÜSED owning the other. Each band contributed over a dozen songs each, making the album a blur of hardcore punk mayhem that paved the way for many future Pacific Northwest punk, metal, thrash and even ‘grunge’ bands in the years that followed. With youthful angst and energy to burn, The Accüsed relentlessly tore into performing music from start-to-finish with a rage and fury that was seldom seen in those days and rarely matched. In the years following their initial LP release and through the 1990’s The Accused crafted a unique musical style that blended the raw hardcore punk speed of bands such as Black Flag, Middle Class, Bad Brains and Exploited with slicing, cheese-grater-to-your-face heavy metal riffs ala Exodus, Kreator and of course Black Sabbath; the end result being so hard-to-classify in those seminole early years, they simply coined it ‘Splatter Rock’; an homage to their favourite style of extreme, exceedingly ‘moist’ horror movies from the 70s and 80s era of films. Now in 2023, which is a mind-numbing 40 years after their debut vinyl release; and almost a dozen other full length albums; several compilations, and untold demos and fan bootlegs, The Accüsed are ready to celebrate a bit of their history while they embark on this next phase of a long, exciting punk metal journey. The Accused have begun writing and recording brand new songs, a few to be debuted at this summer’s slate of live gigs; and Niemeyer says there’s “...a lot more plans that people will be happy to hear about soon..” It sounds like The Accused have yet MORE MAD stories they will eventually tell before their book can be considered ‘written’. It all starts back up this summer 2023–right where it began 40 years ago—in Seattle, USA. Fans and newcomers alike won’t want to miss this rare treat when the band comes thrashing, slicing, crushing and pounding on a stage near you.
