A Saturday Night Showcase of songwriting, singin musicians at the helm

Michael Cepress

You can taste the sun and connect with the rhythms of America's roots through the music of Michael Cepress. An artist who combines the spirit of the past with the freshness today, Cepress' songs are loving and living examples of the sounds and spirits of the late-1960s and 1970s. With influences wide-ranging, he rides the cosmic axis that connects Gram Parsons to Jefferson Airplane to Bill Withers. And within these songs, the visions of the counterculture never faded or failed. They just got smarter, and maybe sweeter, and now come alive again through the re-imaginings that he offers for the 21st century. But, as important as those influences are, they never overwhelm his unique vision. Cepress’s voice and guitar anchor warm arrangements that evoke the era in both its multicolored splendor and its muted earth-tone intimacy. The visual imagery isn’t accidental. Cepress’s career has taken him through textile arts, fashion design, education and exhibit curation, but music – specifically this music – has remained at the center of his creative practice. A lifelong fan and student of the soundscapes of America’s soul, he now creates songs that draw together these golden threads.

Hamilton Boyce

After more than a decade performing with Seattle-based outlaw country band Country Lips and even longer leading psych-pop Song Sparrow Research, Hamilton Boyce relocated to Los Angeles and began releasing solo music which stylistically falls somewhere between the two genres with a lean towards 70s folk-rock and cosmic country. His first full-length solo album is out later this year with leading singles out now.

JD Nash

Albuquerque, NM, Rock | Alt. Folk | Alt. Country | singer songwriter JD Nash has experienced a little bit of everything, touring across the US in previous bands, while dabbling in a handful of different genres over the last decade. His latest releases, mixed and mastered by Chris Common (Le Butcherettes, Chelsea Wolfe, Antemasque), points listeners towards classic rock influences from the 60s and 70s while adding touches of more modern Alternative Folk and Alternative Country. For fans of Wilco, Jeff Tweedy, Kansas, The Eagles, Father John Misty, Israel Nash, and Midlake.

Greg Vandy

Greg Vandy is the host of The Roadhouse and a local tastemaker for independent roots music. In addition to co-publishing American Standard Time, a blog dedicated to American music and vintage lifestyle, and curating for the Pickathon music festival, Vandy is the author of 26 Songs In 30 Days: Woody Guthrie’s Columbia River Songs and The Planned Promised Land In The Pacific Northwest published by Sasquatch Books in 2016.
